Photo 1/2 has been articulated with Moorpark College and by fulfilling certain requirements below, you could receive dual credit for your NPHS transcript and on a Moorpark College transcript. You do not have to attend Moorpark College is receive the benefit (explained below).

Why do this?
It is free (not the case when you go to college)
There is very little risk involved (only a risk to maybe your ego getting bruised a bit if you don’t get the grade you are striving for and a grade penalty if you back out once you have committed to submitting a portfolio – explained below)
The grade you get for this course shows up on the Moorpark College transcript so it looks as if you took the course at Moorpark College.
The credits are trasferable to most colleges (you would want to check to confirm this, of course, if you know the college(s) you are interested in going to)

Who determines grade?
Mr. Lindroth grades portfolio and then the portfolio is sent to a photography professor at Moorpark College to validate the grade, so ultimately, it is the professor that makes the final decision.
Below are portfolios that were accepted for credit for the beginning photography class offered at Moorpark College. You will include 5 breadth image and 5 Sustained Investigation images along with an artist statement explaining your investigation. The breadth images usually take care of themselves doing the regular assignments in class.
Here are two questions to guide your writing for your artist statement about your concentration:
What is the central idea of your sustained investigation?
How do your images support this idea?

Qualifications to Receive a Grade at Moorpark College
(this is the fine print – be sure you understand this)
Students will need to show proficiency in camera tools and functions use in order to get a grade for the Moorpark Course. This is assessed via student projects, quizzes and test.
In order to get an A for the Moorpark grade, the student must have at least a a B- in Photo One and an A- in Photo 2 (otherwise the highest grade the student could get for Moorpark is a B). If a student earns less than a B- in Photo 2, they are disqualified from any grade for Moorpark.
Students must get score 80% or higher on the Camera Tools and Functions Test to be able to receive any grade for the Moorpark course.
Students must meet with MrL periodically to conference about their progress.
Once students have gotten a B- or better in NPHS Photo 1 and at least an A- or B- in Photo 2 and demonstrated proficiency in camera use via the test, the final Moorpark grade is determined by the final grade on the portfolio. Students receiving at least an A- in Photo 2 then can get an A, B or C Moopark grade. Students getting less than an A- and a B- or higher can receive no higher than a B for the Moorpark grade. Students receiving less than B- in Photo 2 will not qualify for a Moorpark grade at all. All MP grades will remain in the NPHS gradebook if a student gets lower than a B- Photo 2 grade or does not score at least 80% on the test.
Students are awarded one of three grades: A, B, C or Not Passing.
Students will always accept the A, of course. If a student gets a B or C, it is up to the student to decide if the grades goes on the transcript. A “Not Passing” will not go on the transcript at all.
Students may drop out of doing this, but they must give Mr. Lindroth notice before the next MP assignment is due. If a student drops, all assignments they turned in will be dropped from the NPHS photo grade book but will not receive a zero. Late work is not accepted for the MP assignments. If you miss a MP assignment deadline, you are immediately dropped for the opportunity to continue, you will receive a zero in the grade book for the missed assignment and any other Moorpark assignments that you have turned in will be droppped from the grade book but will not receive zeros.
What You Work on During the Semester
You will have an additional assignments to submit beyon what other students turn in who are not MP students. However, I do drop a few of hte regular assignments for MP students so that they have more time to focus on their MP work.
These additional assignments will be called MP 1, MP 2, MP 3, etc. in the grade book. You will turn in 15 images each time that pursue your concentration idea. The number of 15 can be reduced if doing darkroom or elaborate digital editing. Images used in these MP assignments cannot be double dipped with other assignments due in the class. Images can be reused but must be edited differently if this is done. Generally the MP assignments you should be pursuing your Sustained Investigation, but you can produce breadth work. You can do different investigations for different MP assignments. You do not have to lock yourself into one idea and only pursue that. You need the freedom to change your mind. However, you will need to eventually land yourself on one concept for the final portfolio.
